5 Simple DIY Projects to Improve your Home

5 simple DIY projects to improve your home

It takes very little to give your home a fresh new look. Start with simple DIY projects that will make the most impact. Do them on weekends. Allow family and friends to join in. Most of all, have fun!

Here are 5 simple projects you can do on your own to improve your home:

  1. House number planter
  2. Instantly increase your home’s curb appeal with a DIY house number planter. Get a flat board that fits your space. Make sure it’s big enough to be seen from a fair distance. You will also need a small planter to attach on the bottom right side of the board. Paint them to match the exterior of your home. Then, stick brass numbers indicating your house number on the upper left corner of the board. When you are done, just put some plants in the planter and nail the finished product next to your front door.

  3. Floating shelves
  4. Install floating shelves to give your home a sleek and modern look. Since the shelves can fit almost anywhere, this project adds extra storage while making the most efficient use of space. Use the shelves to display family photos, artwork, or mementoes. In the kitchen, the shelves can have more practical uses – as a place for cookware or dishware, potted herbs, and some of your favorite cookbooks.

  5. Decorative fringes
  6. Add a bit of fin to your home accessories by embellishing them with fringes. Often seen hanging at the end of fabric like blankets, rugs, and even clothing, fringes can also adorn lampshades, furniture, or a wall mirror. Visit a home fabric store to check out the array of fringes and tassels available for your DIY project. According to Pinterest, the search for fringe furniture was up 275% in 2018 from the previous year.

  7. Shoe organizer vertical plant holder
  8. If you are running out of space in the garden, you can turn an old shoe organizer into a vertical plant holder. Simply hang the shoe organizer on the side of a wall or fence that gets enough sunlight. If you live in a condo, a balcony railing will do. Fill each shoe pouch with potting soil. Since you will be watering the plants, make sure there are no holes in your organizer. Add your favorite plant or herb and watch them grow.

  9. Wall necklace holder
  10. Keep your necklaces untangled with a DIY wall necklace holder. For this project, you will need a flat board. (You can also use salvaged or recycled wood.) Paint the board if you like. Attach approximately five drawer knobs onto the board. For a quirkier look, use knobs in assorted designs. Hang the finished project on a wall in your bedroom or walk-in closet. Once you have done this project, you’ll never want to return your necklaces to their boxes again.
